As a teacher in Fairfax County Public Schools, I’ve always had an interest in starting a seasonal business that involves dessert with a regional flair.
While visiting New Orleans in 2013, I enjoyed some incredible shaved ice products from many vendors throughout the city.
I noticed a clear difference between the ice used by many northern Virginia vendors as compared to the quality of the finely shaved “snow” like ice found in New Orleans.
I understood immediately why the businesses in Louisiana call their fluffy creations “Snoballs.” Upon arriving home, I searched up and down the DMV, but couldn’t find anything truly like a NOLA-style snoball.
Inspired by my desire to provide the best possible dessert to my hometown, I purchased a trailer and all necessary equipment needed to make my dream come true.
Capitol Snow was born in the Spring of 2017 with the mission of making the best quality and best tasting shaved ice available in the capital area.
